We’re going to be evaluating the Moto G Power versus Moto G Stylus to help you choose your next phone.
With the Moto G Play having released in early January – now is a good time to compare its two predecessors. Both phones released in April 2020 and have since been warmly received by critics and tech enthusiasts as solid budget smartphones. While the phones are incredibly similar in a few specs including screen size, chipset and memory, the main difference lands in the stylus that the Moto G Stylus has.
The Moto G Power and Moto G Stylus are both incredibly affordable phones for anyone not looking to empty their wallets on a smartphone. While they might not be the best gaming phones or the best mid-range phones, they’re certainly a contender for anyone looking for a smartphone on a budget.
With all of that in mind – we’re going to compare the Moto G Power with the Moto G Stylus to help you make your decision.

Looking at the specifications listed like this – the phones are clearly extremely similar, with minor differences in dimensions, price, and battery. While the difference in size is barely noticeable, the performance of the battery is significant enough to be discussed.
The Moto G Power has a 5000mAh battery compared to the Moto G Stylus’ 4000mAh battery. Both are Li-Po batteries and can’t be removed or replaced – which is not a problem for the Moto G Power.
The unique part of the phone’s name, power, might be a reference to the battery power that the phone offers. Even though the 5000mAh battery isn’t exactly a standout feature compared to other smartphones – when the hardware is as lightweight and undemanding as the Moto G Power, you end up with battery life that can last up to three days.

Compared to the Motorola G Stylus which only lasts a whopping two days, you can’t really set a foot wrong with either phone in regards to battery.
Aside from that, there’s really not much setting these phones apart aside from the camera. The Moto G Power is limited to a 16MP camera, whereas the Moto G Stylus sports a 48MP camera. There is a noticeable difference here, especially in taking night-time photos. For such a budget phone, there’s few complaints about the camera.
There’s also much more maximum storage on the Moto G Stylus – which is certainly noticeable at this price-range.
Moto G Power vs Moto G Stylus – design
Both of these phones have an extremely similar design, with a few details that set them apart.
Cased in what is basically the same shell, the most noticeable difference in appearance is the shiny plastic back that the Moto G Stylus has. This is compared to the opaque matte plastic back of the Moto G Power. Between these two options, you’d be hard-pressed to shatter or break either of them.
Another difference is the placement of the flashlight on the back of the phone – with the Moto G Power’s aligned with the cameras, while the Moto G Stylus’ light is instead parallel with the camera formation.
Then, the most important design difference between the two is the stylus.

The Moto G Power has no stylus, instead housing a more powerful battery. The Moto G Stylus on the other hand has a stylus accessible in the right hand corner. This isn’t particularly helpful if you’re left handed – though it’s a slight hitch that can easily be overlooked.
The stylus is useful for anyone who finds using their fingers on the phone difficult, as it affords you the familiar precision you’d have using a pen or pencil. Even better the screen size is large enough that the stylus is actually worth it.
Ultimately, the Moto G Power has a classic design that is very unambitious, as does the Moto G Stylus. However, at this budget you’re not expecting to find the most innovative features. This is why the inclusion of the stylus is much appreciated to stand out against all the other basic and simple features.
Moto G Power vs Moto G Stylus – price
The next thing to consider between the Moto G Power and the Moto G Stylus is the price.
Both phones are incredibly budget friendly, with the range of memory / storage options lying between $100 – $250 for both phones.
The base price of the Moto G Power can be found for as little as $110 at the time of writing. Similarly, the Moto G Stylus can be found for $130 at the time of writing. While these prices are of course subject to change, we imagine that they’ll float around this range now that they’re no longer Motorola’s flagship phones.
If you’re looking for a good budget phone, surely either the Motorola G Power or Stylus will be on your radar.

However, as we’re considering the Moto G Power versus Moto G Stylus, we’re forced to make a decision between them. It’s our view that the price difference between the two phones is extremely minute and negligible, which actually makes our decision much harder. With the battery power in mind for the Moto G Power, and the advantages in the Moto G Stylus’s design, we think that the ever so slightly cheaper phone comes out on top.
The three day battery power is a much more impressive specification than the little added functionality that the stylus offers, so we’re going to be saying that the Moto G Power actually comes out on top here.
Which one should you go for?
With specs, design, and price in mind – there’s enough small differences across the board that we can make a decision as to which phone comes out on top. The Moto G Power is our choice against the Moto G Stylus thanks to its advantageous battery power.
At this price, you can’t really ask for much more than what we’ve been given, especially when the Moto G Stylus only really has a stylus fighting in its corner.
