In our opinion, the best overall B660 motherboard on the market right now is the MSI MAG B660 motherboard. It combines everything needed to create the ultimate B660 build and is currently being sold for a pretty reasonable price, too.
First off, the board has support for both Intel’s 12th and 13th Gen LGA 1700 processors. This means that, if you have the cash to spare, you could combine the MSI MAG B660 with something like the Intel Core i9-13900K and get clock frequencies of between 3.0 and 5.8Ghz (across a whopping 24 cores).
It also has support for up to four DDR4 memory sticks, which – when overclocked – can run at speeds of beyond 4800MHz. In total, it supports up to 128GB, which would provide you with an insane gaming experience and mean that you can avoid nasty stutters or lag during gameplay. In terms of connectivity, there are two connections for the front of your case (one a Gen 2, Type C, and the other a Gen 1, Type A). Plus, it has direct ports on the back for 1 Gen 2×2, Type C connection, and four at Gen 2, Type A. All of these are USB 3.2 standard, so you can expect very quick data transfer speeds.

As always, we like to provide a budget option for those of you who can’t necessarily afford to splash out on the best components on the market. What we like about the ASUS Prime B660-PLUS D4 is that it provides all of the things you’d expect on a more expensive board at a very reasonable price.
To start with, like the MSI Mag, it supports 12th & 13th-generation chipsets. Even at the “more modest” end of that range, there are chips like the Intel Core i5-13600K, which already have enough power to play games like Valorent and Cyberpunk 2077 smoothly (with a good graphics card, of course!). Plus, the compatibility with this thing means that you’ll be able to pair it with some very capable hardware; to start with, it has three M.2 slots (all at PCIe 4.0, which means up to 64 GBPS), which will allow you to put together an insanely fast and reliable machine.

Lastly, we wanted to find a great B660 motherboard for gamers. We decided on the ASUS ROG STRIX B660-I, which is in a mini-ITX form factor and would make a fantastic foundation for a small form factor PC (such as a SteamOS machine).
Again, the support for 12th and 13th generation Intel support is here, but in a very compact board. With the right budget, you could still slap a processor (such as the above-mentioned i9-13900K) in here that will tear through any modern title without bottlenecks.
While it does support the latest DDR5 memory standard, it’s worth noting that there are only two slots on this board. This means that you’ll be limited to 64GB of RAM (with a 32GB stick in each slot).
However, there are two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, meaning that you can still have insane storage. For just a few hundred dollars, you could add a couple terabytes of insanely dependable and lightning-fast storage, without any extra noise (ideal for a small living-room PC, if that’s your thing). This is an amazing mini-ITX board and one we’d heartily recommend for just about any gamer, not just those trying to put together an SFF build. With that said, we’d probably recommend that – if you’re seriously considering this – you pick a case to go along with it!

With a 16+1+1 Twin Hybrid Digital VRM Design, supported by 60A DrMOS for 16 VCORE Twin Phases, this is a well-designed multi-functional board. Powering it, we have an 8+4 Solid Pin CPU. It needs all that power to support DDR5 at 6000 MHz – a staggery capacity.
The design is also well-crafted with the memory routing found under the PCB layers to remove the likelihood of external interference. The design also does well on a thermal level. With MOSFET heatsinks and 5W/mK thermal conduction pads, 2X Copper PCB and an enlarged M.2 thermal guide there’s little to worry about.
This is an excellently designed Motherboard and one you should seriously consider if you’re looking for a more mid-range option. With only one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C port the space has been give over to the six USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, eight USSB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports with Type-C and Type-A ports.
On the peripheral connectivity side of things, the GIGABYTE B660 AORUS Master has WiFi 6 802/11ax, Intel 2.5GbE LAN for Ethernet, and Bluetooth v5.2. This rounds the capabilities of this motherboard out well. There’s even an Audio CODEC for microphone and audio input.
Overall, the general all-rounder capability of this motherboard made us view it as a very good choice for a mid-range B660 motherboard.
