Yes, you can upgrade the SSD of the ASUS ROG Ally. This is a fiddly process though. You need to know what you’re doing and make sure you have the right tools. If you do everything right though, without too much hassle or cost you can quite easily double the capacity of your ROG Ally SSD from 512GB to 1TB.

ASUS have a useful and detailed guide on how to complete this process. Here’s what they suggest.

  • Gather your parts. You will need a size 0 Phillips head screwdriver, A guitar pick or other piece of thin plastic, the latest BIOS software
  • Discharge your battery to 25% or below and remove any microSD cards
  • Open your Ally
  • Undo all six screws along the back side
  • Use your guitar pick to undo the clips holding the case together
  • Disconnect the battery
  • Underneath the black flap between the fans, you’ll find the SSD. Remove the screw holding the drive in place, and gently slide the SSD out
  • Slide your new SSD in and can then secure it using the same screw
