If you’re wondering how to mod games on the ASUS ROG Ally then you’ve come to the right place.
More and more games out there support mods created by users, which alter the game. These offer new, creative and often very entertaining changes to visuals, mechanics or gameplay and are a great way to keep an old game feeling fresh. However, it can often be a fiddly process getting a mod installed, especially on non-PC systems. We saw with the Steam Deck, for example, that it could handle Skyrim mods, but it was anything but simple to get them installed.
The good news is that not only is the process possible on the ASUS ROG Ally, but much simpler too. This means you can put those powerful specs to use in your favourite mods. Let’s get into how to do it.
How to mod games on ASUS ROG Ally
This guide only covers how to download mods in games which specifically support modding such as Skyrim and Fallout. These games have supported places to access them. We advise strongly against getting unofficial mods from other sources or using hacks.
If the game supports mods and was downloaded from Steam, modding can be a very simple process. Simply go to the Steam workshop, select a mod you want and download it. It will automatically go to the correct file location.
If you didn’t download the game from Steam or want a mod that is not in the workshop, there are other supported ways to add a mod to certain games. Here’s how.
- Locate the game files
- Find a mod manager
- Download a mod
Not let’s break that down in more detail.
Locate the game files
This will vary depending on where you set the game to download to. The mod needs to go in the ‘data’ folder of the game. This will typically be in a separate folder that is simply the name of the game you are adding the mod to. You can normally find it by going to ProgramFiles/(developers name)/(games name)/data.
Find a mod manager
Different games have different mod managers. Some, like Skyrim, even have in-launcher managers built in. Research which manager is standard to use in the game you are seeking to mod and download it.
Download a mod
Within that mod manager you will be able to find and download mods. When you’ve downloaded one make sure you add it to the right data file in order for it to work.
If you download a mod incorrectly or try to mod a game that does not support modding you may run into performance issues. Sometimes the only way to solve is by factory resetting your ASUS ROG Ally, so make sure you mod with care.
