At the time of writing, the ChatGPT app is not on Android, at least, not just yet.

OpenAI recently released their ChatGPT app for iOS on May 18th, though the launch was limited to Apple devices in the United States.

Android users weren’t quite blessed with the same mobile access to the service, meaning that they’re going to have to resort to using the best apps like ChatGPT for the time-being. The alternative options are to use it in the web-browser, which is never a fun affair.

When is the ChatGPT app coming to Android?

According to OpenAI: “Android users, you’re next! ChatGPT will be coming to your devices soon.“

While the release of the ChatGPT app is limited to users in the US – this is only a tiny fraction of ChatGPT users worldwide. When the app is ready to launch for users across the world, we imagine the Android app will have already launched.

Realistically – we don’t imagine this is going to take too long. The rate at which AI development is running at right now, we could even see the Android app release in the coming weeks. This is, of course, a prediction.

What will the ChatGPT Android app be able to do?

The ChatGPT app for iOS currently makes use of GPT-4, if you’re a Plus subscriber, or GPT-3.5 if you’re not.

Apparently, there’s two models available in the ChatGPT app:

  • text-davinci-002-render-sha-mobile
  • gpt-4-mobile

These were seemingly discovered by Reddit user /u/wonderfuly, though there has been no confirmation that this is actually the case – only the word of the original poster. If these do turn out to be incorrect – which is highly possible – the most likely scenario is that the ChatGPT mobile app is running regular versions of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.

However, the original poster claims that GPT-4 ‘mobile’ has faster access speeds than the version of GPT-4 that web-version accesses.

When the Android version of the ChatGPT app releases – could we see a GPT-4 Mobile implemented there too?
