Ubisoft has officially announced Far Cry Primal, the next title in the hit open world series coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in early 2016.

Far Cry Primal takes players to 10,000 BC – or as Ubisoft calls it, the “savage Stone Age” – where they’ll have to hunt for food, craft weapons and tools, fend off woolly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers, and fight against other tribes as huntsman TAKKER, one of the last surviving members of his group.

Unlike previous spin-off Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Primal is a fully-fledged title, too, with a release set for February 23, 2016 on console, and March on PC. It doesn’t appear to be headed to Xbox 360 and PS3, however.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with support from Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Kiev.

“The Stone Age is the perfect setting for a Far Cry game,” said creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot. “Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless and savage frontier.  The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain.  That came with conflict against other humans, of course, but also against nature itself.”
