It’s that time of year again – a new SmackDown vs. Raw game is inbound – and, as ever, it’s what’s new that’s of most interest. Lucky for all you WWE fans, we’ve teamed up with THQ to bring you expanded details on 2010’s brand new creation features, as well as 15 hot off the press screenshots of it in action. So, without further ado, here’s what’s new.

First up, Create a Superstar, one of the series’ most popular features, has been given a lick of paint. 2010 will let you create more realistic and more detailed Superstars – indeed the mode itself has received a significant graphical overhaul. The interface has been enhanced, a ton of new parts have been added, and new options promise to provide even more depth to the creation process.

Take the Paint Tool, for example. You’ll be able to select between 128×128 or 256×256 pixel canvas sizes to design unique logos and tattoos on. To speed the flow of your creative juices a pen, shape, line, rotate, reverse and fill tool will all be available for custom design creation. These can then be moved, rotated and size adjusted when they’re applied in the Create a Superstar mode.

The Custom Finishers feature, implemented in last year’s game, has been further improved. For the first time you’ll be able to create your own diving finishers from the top turnbuckle. You’ll be able to string together combinations of taunts, dives, take-offs, descents and finishes to create a senton bomb, flying cross body block or hurricanrana.

Another first for the franchise is the ability to create your own entrance moves. You’ll be able to save your favourite highlights, then edit them together and add screen effects, sound effects and graphics to put the finishing touches on your created character’s ring entrance.

And finally there’s the new Superstar Threads feature. For the first time players will have the power to modify the colour schemes of their favourite WWE Superstars’ ring gear. Think Undertaker ought to wear nothing but hot pink, or that Mickie James looks better in blue than red? Now, thanks to Superstar Threads, that’s the player’s call to make.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP and DS and is scheduled for release on October 20 in the US – presumably October 23 in the UK.
