SEGA has announced Total War: Warhammer, a new game in Creative Assembly’s long-running strategy series coming soon to PC.

Total War: Warhammer will see players take control of monsters, heroes and “thousands of warriors” from the Warhammer universe in real-time tactical battles, and promises to bring war “on a scale as yet unimagined”.

“Gigantic monsters, flying creatures, legendary heroes and storms of magical power take their place on the battlefield, alongside thousands of warriors clashing in real-time tactical battles. All at YOUR command,” Creative Assembly said.

“In the turn-based campaign game of statecraft & empire building, you will find the Old World an unforgiving and treacherous place, filled with endless war and cunning alliances alike. Whichever race you choose to play as and however you seek conquest, you will be faced with a conflict that threatens to tear the very fabric of reality asunder.”

A release date has yet to be announced.

UPDATE: SEGA has provided further details on the game and its story, suggesting that players will get to lead three factions into war: Orcs and Goblins; Dwarfs; and the Vampire Counts.

The game will also be the first entry in a trilogy of Total War: Warhammer titles, with two further standalone games and additional content packs planned for release.
