FIFA 12 for Nintendo 3DS will not feature online multiplayer as was first reported by EA, producer Matt Prior has confirmed.
Earlier this month EA announced the development of FIFA 12 for 3DS, stating the game would offer “head-to-head online matches using Nintendo Wi-Fi connection”.
However, it would appear wires were crossed as the game won’t feature such a mode.
“Currently, we only have local head-to-head play, but server-based online is certainly something we would be looking at in the future,” producer Matt Prior told NintendoWorldReport.
The franchise’s first outing on 3DS will also fail to make use of StreetPass, SpotPass and other platform specific functionality.
Given some of the 3DS launch titles – Super Street Fighter IV in particular – managed to utilise many of the handheld’s features it’s a little disappointing to hear that FIFA 12 won’t even offer online play. We’re already thinking this could be a bit of a rushed job.
