Sony has announced that the third-person, hack and slash mech shooter, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – Mars, will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC. Konami’s original 2003 title will receive a 4K remaster ahead of its Spring 2018 release. The game will also feature full VR support on PlayStation VR, though there’s no mention of whether it’ll provide Vive or Oculus Rift support. This’ll probably be the closest we ever get to a Zone of the Enders 3.

The PS4 remaster of Zone of the Enders 2 will feature enhanced graphics, and 4K resolution support for those who’ve got a PS4 Pro console. The announcement trailer revealed that the game would be enriched with a new sound design, and even mentioned ‘next-gen surround sound’. I wonder if this means it’ll implement the same 3D audio technology that features in PSVR titles, but so far has only supported Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn on regular PS4.

Zone of the Enders is a third-person mech shooter series that was created by Hideo Kojima, the original Zone of the Enders was a decent game in its own right, but probably sold by the bucketload due to the inclusion of the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty tanker demo. Zone of the Enders 2: The 2nd Runner released in 2003 to good critical reception, but it wasn’t a commercial hit. Zone of the Enders 2 received a re-release in 2012 as part of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection.

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – Mars will be released on PS4 and PC in Spring 2018.
