Konami has today announced the development of Zombie Apocalypse, a new downloadable title for Xbox 360 and PS3 scheduled for release this summer.

Zombie Apocalypse casts up to four players as heavily-equipped gun-slingers who have been left to fight for survival in a world where the undead have risen and are feasting on the living. The players’ task is a simple one: destroy as many zombies as possible to save the last remaining human survivors.

The game will feature 11 lethal weapons such as assault rifles, flame throwers, a C4 filled teddy bear and a zombie slicing chainsaw. Players will also be able to use environmental hazards to crush, burn, slice, or cause other types of destruction on the masses of zombies.

All the action will be playable cooperatively by up to four players, either online or on one local console. There will be seven environments and 55 days through which players must survive, with seven unlockable game modes and online leaderboards acting as added incentives to keep playing.
