With the NX Nintendo is determined not to repeat the first-party failings of Wii U and 3DS launches, with plans to release Zelda, Pokemon and Mario games for the new system within six months of its planned March 2017 debut, sources close to Nintendo have told MCV.

The Zelda title is the confirmed Breath of the Wild, whilst Game Freak will be handling the new Pokemon game. Nothing is known of the new Mario, though it seems safe to assume Shigeru Miyamoto will be heavily involved.

MCV adds that NX has also gained third-party support from SEGA, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros.

The same sources also said that Eurogamer’s NX reveal that it will be a portable system with the ability to connect to a TV and features a detachable controller is 100 per cent accurate. Visuals are said to be between PS3 and PS4.

“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,” said one exec who has first hand impressions of the system. “It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”

Nintendo is expected to officially reveal the NX later this year.
