NantG Mobile has given up the ghost on Z1 Battle Royale, with the company handing full control of the troubled title back to Daybreak Game Company.

Despite picking up Z1 Battle Royale in an effort to 'revert the game back to its glory days,' NantG has said that there still remains 'many challenges' ahead that present a roadblock for achieving long-term success.

'Despite the team's determination and commitment to revive Z1BR's player base with our recent Season 3 launch update, we soon realised that the road is still paved with many challenges that preclude us from long-term success, including the confusion it caused by having both NantG Mobile and Daybreak managing the same game under two separate brands,' said the company.

'Based on these events and the current state of the game, NantG Mobile will focus on its core mission of developing mobile games moving forward, and we have refocused our team toward this vision.'

Z1 Battle Royale is the rebranded version of H1Z1, and was given its new name just last month. Before that, the original incarnation of H1Z1, Just Survive, was shuttered by Daybreak Game Company in August last year.
