Youtuber and designer Bearly Regal has reimagined the high definition glitz and grime of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 as if it were a blocky, classic PlayStation 1 title (via PCGamer). And it looks simply fabulous.
After 50 hours of effort, Regal has faithfully reconstructed the game’s E3 2018 demo, with some clever pixely tricks facilitated by the game creation tool Dreams. He’s even put the disclaimer, ‘Work in progress – does not represent the final look of the game’, across the field of view. In the video, which you can watch below, he talks through his design choices and the challenges of demaking and replicating the PS1 hardware capabilities in the PS4’s whizzy engine.
Lastly, Bearly Regal showed off a mini-tour of a polygonal Night City, with a hovering car sailing past on a road lit up with soft neon blues and pinks. There’s a familiar face hanging around the apartment buildings, but I won’t spoil the surprise. Take a look at the demake in the video below.
