YouTube has launched 60fps live streaming, allowing users to broadcast live gameplay footage at a higher frame rate.

The technology lets streamers broadcast gameplay at 720p60 and 1080p60, and has been integrated directly into the Elgato Game Capture HD60 via a new software update released today.

You’ll need to be using an HTML5-compatible browser like Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari to view a stream at 60fps, though, or you’ll be restricted to 30fps. The technology does not appear to support playback on tablets or mobile devices.

60fps video playback was first introduced by YouTube last year but did not include support for live streaming, which was previously restricted to 30fps.

From today, live streams will also include the option to alter the playback speed, letting users skip back through a live broadcast and view it at 1.5x or 2x speed.
