At first glance, it’s easy to mistake some of the doors in Starfield as just dressing – non-interactive objects to create an illusion of space and a more realistic-feeling world. However, someone in the community has realised that at least some of these can be opened – and you’re able to find some pretty cool stuff inside.

If you come across a door that saying ‘Emergency Cuttable Wall’, all you need to do is point your laser cutter at the hinges and fire. Aim for each hinge and eventually the door will fall through, allowing you to venture inside, as demonstrated by Reddit user: thebirdpuncher. During our playthrough as part of the Starfield review process, it’s pretty easy to miss these details, so hopefully you won’t make the same mistake as us.

Unsuprisingly, it’s been receiving rave reviews from the Starfield community on Reddit. “NO WAY!? That is so cool! I love it!,” said one Starfield fan. “I saw emergency cuttable wall and thought wow they really have immersing decor. It never occurred to me to cut it. I’ve wasted so many digipicks going the other way,” said another.

Finally, one added: “”A lot of dev studios are afraid doing stuff like this and I honestly don’t know why. Maybe it has something to do with spending additional resources that might result in a deeper experience vs. building mainstream zero brain virtual worlds that gamers will gobble up regardless.”

It’s an incredible detail, and despite being so simple says a lot about just how linear we expect games to be. Just by allowing a simple interaction like this helps create a far more believeable world, where things such as the laser cutter have a greater purpose other than just mining materials.
