So, Fortnite's newest patch has some pirate stuff, and a couple of new LTMs, but the most interesting thing that's been added to the game today has been plucked straight out of Apex Legends.

Respawn Entertainment's effort had 25 million players within a week, because it's absolutely cracking, and word of mouth spread fast. It also gives those of us who aren't fantastic at battle royale games a bit more of a chance by being a tad more accessible than some of its contemporaries. The glorious ping system has been highlighted as a big factor for the game's success.

If you don't know, in Apex Legends, you can point at anything in-game — loot, enemies, locations, whatever — and with the press of a button, tell your teammates where they should be looking. It allows you to communicate clearly with your squad without ever uttering a single word.

It's great.

So, obviously enough, Fortnite has aped it. Apexed it. No… aped it;. I was right the first time.

I doubt Fortnite will be the last battle royale game to implement a ping system — it likely won't be the last game, full stop. I just want Apex Legends to do a special building weekend now, or something. Oh! Call it Changing Booms and watch the cash roll in, EA. It's a no brainer.
