Yooka-Laylee, a new 3D platformer from some of the creative team behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games, has smashed past its Kickstarter funding target of £175,000 and currently sits at almost £1.4 million.

The initial funding goal was for a PC release, but thanks to the Kickstarter’s success the game will now release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank you for your wonderful support,” said developer Playtonic Games.

The £1.5 million stretch goal will add an orchestral score to the game, whilst any extra money will “go towards improving and polishing the game”.

Playtonic says that backers need not be worried about the game’s development becoming too bloated.

“We’ve attentively followed your feedback since the Kickstarter launched and we’re acutely aware of the concerns surrounding Kickstarter ‘bloat’,” wrote the dev. “Backers can be assured that the Playtonic team is comprised of vastly experienced game developers, and we’ve carefully planned our stretch feature pledges to ensure that they won’t negatively impact on the creation of our game.

“These are very ‘much’ dream extras that with additional budget we’ll be able to add to theYooka-Laylee package with minimal disruption to our core work.”
