SEGA’s Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3) on PS3 has got off to a very respectable start in Japan, shifting 372,000 units in its first week.

Kotaku notes that this is considerably more than the 300,000 units the game’s producer Toshihiro Nagoshi had previously hinted the game had sold. The game has also become the second fastest-selling PS3 title in Japan, only bettered by Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 – 465,000 units back in June 2008.

Yakuza 3 also gave rise to a 225 per cent boost in PS3 hardware sales, with early data indicating 35,000 units sold over the week.
