With Xbox Live popularizing online gaming on consoles, the good old LAN has taken a back seat, but you still can’t beat playing multiplayer games face to face with your opposition.

Obviously aware that the LAN format is still something gamers are craving, MatchBox360 brings us XL LAN 2006. Billed as the “biggest Xbox and Xbox 360 e-sports tournament for the United Kingdom in 2006!” XL LAN 2006 invites gamers to take part in some competitive gaming across a host of Xbox and Xbox 360 titles.

The event will take place at the Birmingham NEC on the weekend on November 25 and 26, and will feature a mix of free to enter and pay to play tournaments. Admission will be £10 and that grants you entry to F.E.A.R. and Gears of War tournaments, with a bunch of prizes on offer from Vivendi Games and Microsoft.

More competitive gamers you can enter a host of Halo and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 tournaments, each with an entry fee, but these offer a cash prizes for the winners.

Tournament entrance fee and prizes:

HALO 2 FFA: £10 per player : £300+ prize fund

HALO 2 2v2: £15 per player : £500+ prize fund

HALO 2 4v4: £15 per player : £1000+ prize fund

PRO EVO 6: £10 per player : £300+ prize fund

PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT : £100+ prize fund

Unfortunately the response for the event has been so high that places are now extremely limited. However, you can still pre-book spaces by heading over to the XL website. You’ll also find a whole bunch of details for each of the pay to enter tournaments.
