A recent update to the Xbox One’s SDK has unlocked access to the console’s seventh CPU core, according to a report by Digital Foundry.

Access to the new core offers will help developers improve game performance by offering more processing power, but reportedly disables the use of certain Kinect features, including game-specific voice commands and infra-red functionality.

Use of the seventh core also appears to be relatively unstable, with developers currently unable to see “how much CPU time is available” to them. Microsoft hopes to address this in a future SDK update, the site states.

The news follows the leak of Xbox One’s development tools by hacking group H4LT last year.

Meanwhile, a further SDK update released last month is also said to have improved performance of the console’s ESRAM.

“The new API allows you to do a lot more with the ESRAM, things devs have always wanted to do but were not easily accessible,” Techland’s Maciej Binkowski told Gaming Bolt. “This together with better tools (PIX) allowed us to really improve performance and tweak ESRAM usage.”
