It will be possible to use wired Xbox 360 headsets on Xbox One, Microsoft has announced – but only if you purchase an adapter.

“We are working to develop an adapter for current wired headsets to connect,” Tweeted Xbox Support. “More details as we approach launch.”

The news follows confirmation that the Xbox One won’t ship with a headset in the box, with users expected to use Kinect or buy a new headset.

What’s not clear is whether the adapter will be bundled with all Xbox One consoles, or if it will be sold separately.

Shipping a low-cost adapter in the box would be a great way to appease Xbox fans who have a perfectly fine Xbox 360 headset which would otherwise be useless.
