Disappointed by Microsoft’s approach to DRM on Xbox One? Upset at the situation regarding disc sharing and online requirements?

Well, Microsoft believes you’ll still buy an Xbox One regardless of what you might think of it following its controversial reveal last week.

“We believe that if all you want is gaming, you’ll still pick us, at the end of the day,” Microsoft Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer told OXM UK prior to Xbox One’s public reveal last week.

“The super core guys, they will buy everything,” he added. “They will buy all devices, but most people really only do buy one device, and if you’re going to think about what that one device is, we believe an all-in-one system that does the best games and TV and entertainment will be something that’s really unique.”

Spencer’s comments follow last week’s not-so-wise words from Don Mattrick who – much to the anger of Xbox fans – said: “If you’re backwards compatible, you’re really backwards”.

Spencer signed off by telling OXM that Microsoft was going to “continue to innovate, continue to add new experiences, and make it better every single year.

“Right now we’re eight years into this platform – we didn’t have a single music video [at launch], we didn’t have any entertainment, and now we’re seeing half our usage globally driven from entertainment apps. And so we think the story will evolve and continue to get better over time.”

He also says that his Xbox experience is “about communicating with [his] friends, while [he’s] watching TV, while [he] might have music on, and at the same time [he’s] playing a game,” which we attempted to recreate in the video below.
