1UP reports, by way of an unnamed source, that Microsoft has increased the Xbox Live Arcade file size limit from 50 MB to 250 MB. The source also indicates that this can be further increased to 450 MB with Microsoft’s approval.

We do not comment on rumour and speculation and so we can not confirm that rumour,” a Microsoft rep told 1UP. “However, adjusting the size limit is certainly an option in the future, and as always, we are listening to feedback both from gamers and developers on what will provide the best user experience.

The increase in Xbox Live Arcade file sizes would render many of the service’s releases incompatible with Xbox 360 Core systems using a memory card to store downloaded games. However, Microsoft does have plans to expand the size of the Xbox 360 Memory Unit.

There is already one possible solution in the works for this category of gamer should we decide to increase the Xbox Live Arcade game file size from its current 50 MB limit,” said Microsoft. “As announced at E3 last May, a larger Memory Unit is being developed which will allow gamers who do not own a hard drive to store and easily transport several Xbox Live Arcade games at a time.

Microsoft did not reveal any information regarding Memory Unit capacity or pricing.
