Slides from the event show a miniature keyboard which appears to fit between the prongs on the Xbox 360’s controller, allowing for text messaging during gameplay. It is not known for sure if the slides are genuine, but, judging from press coverage, they appear to have some credibility.
The keyboard could be used for text chatting in multiplayer games or even sending text messages to friends not in the game, via MSN Messenger. Obviously if the keyboard peripheral is genuine we could also see a number of games released to take advantage of the extra keys. PC games ported to consoles often have to make sacrifices to controls because of the limitations of joypads. With a keyboard such sacrifices may not need to be made. Maybe we could also be treated to a new typing of the dead game from Sega, although the small size may make killing zombies hard.
Microsoft was keen to distance the Xbox from obvious PC comparisons, so did not release a keyboard for the Xbox. Should they have changed their mind on the keyboard, is there a possibility of a mouse also being released?
