Speaking on the latest of Major Nelson’s podcasts, Albert Penello, Microsoft’s director of global marketing has been discussing the HD-DVD add-on.
“Here’s the truth, we’re still thinking about it. Here’s what I can tell you for sure, it’s going to be the cheapest HD-DVD player you can buy… without a doubt, when it comes out,” said Penello. “Everybody is very enthusiastic with the direction we’re going. There are still a few surprises left. I don’t want to spill the beans yet, but I think people are going to think it’s a great value.“
What isn’t clear is whether the total cost of the Xbox 360 console and HD-DVD add-on will be the cheapest player available or whether Penello was simply referring to the add-on. Hopefully the price will be revealed shortly, although we have a sneaking suspicion we’ll have to wait until X06.
