Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft has now topped one million customers in Europe. The game went on sale in Europe in February 2005 and at the time the estimated MMORPG market in Europe was a meagre 250,000 people. Worldwide figures are growing daily, with the current customer total at over 5.5 million.

It is extremely rewarding to see so many European players enjoying World of Warcraft,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “The players have supported our belief in the European MMORPG market, and we thank them for helping us make World of Warcraft one of the most popular games in the world.”

Blizzard is currently working on The Burning Crusade, the first expansion pack for World of Warcraft. The expansion will up the character level cap to 70, introduce new flying mounts and add the profession of Jewelcrafting, among numerous other features.
