Brian Kopp, had filed suit against Blizzard Entertainment, Vivendi, and the ESA, with claims that the three organizations were wrong to order eBay to terminate his auctions for his book ‘The Ultimate World of Warcraft Leveling & Gold Guide’. Kopp had sold hundreds of copies of the guide for around $15 a piece.

The three parties also threatened Kopp with copyright and trademark infringement, but Kopp claimed he was in the clear because the book contained a clear disclaimer of its unauthorized nature, contained by copyrighted text or storylines, and only used screen shots from a site unaffiliated with the video game makers.

A settlement has now put an end to the discussion of legality, with Kopp having been given permission to resume sales of his guide. Kopp has to retain the book’s disclaimers of its unofficial nature and will not include links or instruction on how to cheat in the game.
