Team 17 has announced Worms Revolution Extreme, a new title in the turn-based combat series heading to PlayStation Vita this autumn.

Based on last year’s Worms Revolution, Worms Revolution Extreme marks the debut of warring worms on Sony’s handheld, and features 47 missions and 25 puzzles set across a variety of distinct landscapes.

Team 17 has also taken advantage of the Vita’s touchscreen and rear touchpad to let players select items, position the camera, and aim their weapons.

And finally, a new Treasure Mode lets players link up to their PlayStation 3-owning friends to unlock gifts.

“This all new mode enables you to link up with your friends who have a PS3 system (or vice versa),” explains Team 17’s Bethany Aston (via PS Blog). “You can help each other unlock 10 special gifts using a lock and key system. Meet the requirements in either offline Versus or online battles to receive a key and connect to a friend’s PlayStation 3 system with the corresponding chest to unlock the treasure!”

Worms Revolution Extreme launches in Q3 2013.
