Wargaming has officially revealed World of Tanks 2.0, a major overhaul for the beloved multiplayer game. Coming 15 years after the game’s 1.0 launch, this massive update is said to be the “biggest update ever” across Warhaming’s history.
Releasing on September 3rd, World of Tanks 2.0 is a huge milestone for the multiplayer game. Alongside graphical improvements and a gorgeous new map, players will also have access to Tier XI tanks for the first time in series history.
World of Tanks 2.0 update confirmed
The biggest addition to World of Tanks with the 2.0 update is the introduction of Tier XI vehicles. Players will have access to 16 new Tier XI vehicles with uniquegameplay mechanics and a new progression system to accommodate them. Of course, every vehicle in the game has also received a comprehensive rebalance to fit with the new tier and also bring “smarter roles and fairer gameplay” across the board.
Alongside the new tier of vehicles, Wargaming has completely overhauled the in-game hangar to be more functional than before. As part of the game’s enhanced UI, the hangar now allows you to assemble, equip and inspect tanks with nothing being “more than two clicks away” for better usability.
Impressively, the new update also comes with a severe audio overhaul that aims to deliver a more “immersive soundscape”. Every tank now has brand-new sounds that are heavier and recorded from real tanks as well as a new mixing solution to make combat audio clearer to understand during hectic matches.
Additionally, Wargaming promises a faster matchmaking solution with the game’s new matchmaker that’s “built from the ground up for faster queues, better team balance, and more dynamic battles”. There’s also a brand-new map, the Scandanavian hills of Nordskar, and it comes with a new PVE Event: Operation Boiling Point.
“2.0 isn’t just an update – it’s a cornerstone of the game’s future evolution that will define World of Tanks development for years to come,” explained World of Tanks publishing director Michael Broek. “We’re excited to share with our players the results of the team’s hard work over the past two years. Whether you’re new to the game, a seasoned veteran, or returning to the fight, with Update 2.0 there’s no better time to play World of Tanks.”
As the biggest update in World of Tank history, the 2.0 update is a huge step forward for the series, although some have pushed back against the idea of bringing a new tier of vehicles to the multiplayer game. With just a couple of weeks until the massive update launches, it won’t be long until we find out just how much this alters the core gameplay experience.
