Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus comes out this week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and, in case you didn’t already know, the Nazi bashing sequel won’t come with a multiplayer mode — just like it’s predecessor Wolfenstein: The New Order.

In an interview with PCGamer, Wolfenstein II’s lead designer, Tommy Tordsson Björk, said that if the game’s developer, MachineGames, were to add multiplayer it would detract from the The New Colossus’ single-player story.

Björk said that, ‘the only way we can create these super immersive narrative experiences is if we can solely focus on the single-player. Having a multiplayer component in this work process would just dilute it all.’

Following the recent news stories that have been causing much consternation throughout the industry of late, it’s encouraging to see that some developers are solely focusing on a single-player experience, it would be a shame if developers continued to shift the focus from solo experiences, and single-player adventures are why many of us love playing video games. The sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order seems to be doing a pretty decent job at taking players on a memorable (and often violent) adventure, which is set in a fictional Nazi-dystopian take on the United States.

With the game’s release looming, it seems as though MachineGames is doing it’s very best to give players a strong story experience, and Björk says that, ‘there are so many things you aren’t seeing. We’re definitely pushing the limits, but at the same time continuing what makes Wolfenstein really special: the drama, the human relationships, with dark humor and violence. It’s pushing them all, on all fronts.’

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 27.
