WipEout HD was supposed to be available on the PlayStation Store by now, but for reasons unknown it was delayed. The good news is that Sony has confirmed that the hugely impressive downloadable game will be available this autumn.

The game will feature a selection of the best tracks taken from previous versions of the iconic racing series, each reworked to act as a showcase for the graphical prowess of the PS3 – we’re talking full 1080p, 60 frames per second splendour.

In addition to taking on the single-player challenge, WipEout HD will offer players a comprehensive multiplayer element which promises two player split screen and eight player online racing.

In an update on the Official PlayStation Blog, the game’s producer, Daimion Pinnock, also announced that the game will support the new PS3 Trophy system – more details on which will be rolled out soon.
