Wild Rift is a new 5v5 MOBA that will bring the League of Legends experience to mobile and console platforms, as announced by developer Riot Games (via IGN).

Yesterday, the developer celebrated League of Legends’ 10th anniversary. 10th?! That’s wild. What’s also wild is the number of new announcements and the volume of content that Riot Games punted out into the world in the party.

So, Wild Rift will launch as a bespoke experience built for mobile and console platforms with approximately 40 champions and more on the way. The game will use a new twin-stick control scheme rather than mimic the click control scheme on PC, and matches will last 15 to 18 minutes.  PC players will be able to unlock rewards in Wild Rift based on their time spent in League of Legends, and the game will be free-to-play with competitive ranked modes coming too.

‘We didn’t want to just port League on PC 1:1 — we want to make sure Wild Rift feels like it was designed for new platforms, and use that opportunity to make a bunch of improvements to the game,’ Riot Games explained. Sign ups for open beta updates are live, and this will be scheduled towards the end of the year.

‘We’re going to begin the process of rolling alphas and betas through the end of the year, starting in China,’ the official website says. ‘The plan is to have the mobile version fully live everywhere in the world by the end of 2020, with console coming sometime after.’

Wild Rift will be coming to mobile platforms and consoles in 2020. Watch the announcement trailer below.
