Yesterday Nintendo revealed that Aliens Colonial Marines and Batman Arkham City are in development for Wii U, both of which are built using Unreal Engine 3. In all likelihood, this means that Epic are supporting Nintendo’s new hardware with the engine itself.

When Epic VP Marc Rein was quizzed on this by Develop, he replied: “that isn’t an illogical conclusion to make,” but declined to comment further.

If the speculation is indeed true – as evidence would suggest – Nintendo will have taken a massive step in their bid to capture a core games market. The move could also spark a deluge of externally developed triple-A titles for its new console.
