2K has said that a “last minute bug fix” caused BioShock 2 to ship for PC without proper support for widescreen monitors – setting the game to a widescreen resolution actually means you’ll get a more restricted view of the action. Fans will remember that the same problem cropped up with the first game.
“When BioShock 2 shipped for PC players, it altered the vertical field of view for different monitor aspect ratios rather than the horizontal field of view,” explained 2K community manager Elizabeth Tobey.
“We are fixing the FOV so that it expands horizontally in the first PC patch. That means that now your view will expand on the right and the left if you have a widescreen monitor.”
Tobey admits that the situation has left 2K feeling a little sheepish.
“We always meant to have our FOV expand horizontally, but a last minute bug fix for a related issue changed this back to a vertical FOV just before ship. We feel rather silly about this, and agree that horizontal expansion is much more awesome, and that you’ll have it very soon.”
The fix is currently in testing so those wanting to play the game as intended shouldn’t have to wait much longer.
