West-Zampella vs Activision trial release date slips

The trial in Jason West and Vince Zampella’s legal battle with Activision has been delayed by three days, and will now kick off on June 1.

As reported by Develop, the trial’s start has been delayed due to problems with putting together a jury pool.

In case you’ve forgotten, this hoo-ha commenced when West and Zampella were fired in March 2010 for “breaches of contract and insubordination”. The pair then sued Activision over a vast quantity of unpaid royalties, and the publisher counter-sued.

Both parties are demanding $1bn, which is a lot of money – possibly enough for the winner to construct a Scrooge McDuck-style money vault, in which they will bathe naked.

Once started, the case holds the promise of being a bit of a corker. Literally thousands of documents have been submitted as evidence by each side, and it seems all but inevitable that some really juicy stuff is going to come to light.

Mopping up that juicy stuff will be California Judge Elihu Berl, who has an excellent name.

West-Zampella vs Activision sounds like the name of a dodgy dance act. Perhaps everyone can put aside their differences and unite to produce this summer’s banging club anthem.

But I doubt it.
