A pre-alpha demo of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay was shown at Gamescom, demonstrating combat, environments and Thinblood abilities in the sanguine sequel (via IGN).

After moseying about a dingy apartment, the character moves on through the dark, golden-hued streets to a nightclub. There’s a Christmas tree in Pioneer Square, though it could be set during the summer because that stuff is left out almost all year round.

A quest takes the character to the Jungle, a hideout under a train station. It’s essentially an extended look at the gameplay trailer that we saw at E3, but it gives us a better idea of what to expect regarding combat, abilities, and environments. There are three Thinblood specialisms, which is intriguing enough because Thinbloods were characteristically much weaker in the previous game. The Nebulation discipline allows the player to travel through vents and reach new areas. Combat looks a little unruly, but as this is only a pre-alpha demo, features will hopefully be improved and refined during its development.

We also viewed the wealth of options available in social interactions, a point of significance for Paradox Interactive and Hardsuit Labs. Negotiation, coercion, and humanity were possible choices when dealing with this slippery customer in the demo. The player will double cross and be double crossed as they encounter the veritable cast of characters populating the darkest corners of Seattle.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC and consoles in Q1 2020. Watch the demo gameplay shown at Gamescom below.
