Speaking to 1UP at the Nordic Game Conference in Malmö, Sweden earlier this week, Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans revealed plans to launch a web-based portal for LittleBigPlanet. The new service will make it possible for users to advertise their created levels to other LBP players and to queue up downloads ready for when they next load up the game.

Each user-created level will be provided with a unique URL that can then be easily sent to friends or posted on message boards.

Evans said: “Rather than going on forums and saying, ‘Please search for my level,’ you can just say, ‘Here’s a link.'” When other users go to that page’s link, they’ll be given the option to queue the download of the LBP level, which will appear in the game the next time they turn on their PlayStation 3.”

The new portal will also offer leaderboards, photos and comments. An API will also be released, enabling users to create custom LBP-related applications. Evan revealed that it will be possible for users to use the LBP API to create a Google Maps page that details the locations of levels on Craft Earth. The API is currently in testing and MM hopes to have it available to gamers “as soon as possible”.
