Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montréal posted a video with three teaser images that seem to hint the Court of Owls project is the next adventure for the caped crusader.
September 21 is Batman Day, and it was the 80th anniversary of the dark knight’s first comic book appearance this year. Lots went batty in their celebrations, and even Fortnite has a crossover event occurring in honor of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. WB Games Montréal posted a simple but understated tribute to the character on its official Twitter account, but not all was as it seemed.

In the uneventful clip focusing on the Bat-Signal, there are three glitchy images that appear for only a fraction of a second. One of these images references the Court of Owls, a violent cabal of Gotham City's oldest and wealthiest families whose nefarious deeds keep the cogs of the city spinning. Scott Snyder, the creator of the Court of Owls, cryptically quote-retweeted the video with ‘Wait for it… #bewarethecourtofowls’. It seems that Snyder let the bat out of the bag, as he has now deleted the tweet, but a Court of Owls involvement in the next Batman game looks very likely.

WB Games Montréal has been working on its latest project for some time now, and has kept the details under wraps. All that was confirmed is that it is based on a DC Comics property, and members of the development team were seen to be toting a t shirt with an owl emblem on it in 2018. With the Court of Owls, the next Batman game could very well be a sequel to Arkham Knight because Dick Grayson is linked with the faction in the comics. Grayson’s Batman would be a new direction for the series, as well as provide opportunity for the games’ and comic fans alike to explore the world of the Court and see Gotham with new eyes.
At the moment, this is unconfirmed, so until we do receive an official update, we will be reading The New 52 comics in silent hope.
