A new mod for the PC version of Watch Dogs has been released bringing the game’s visuals more in line with those seen in its infamous E3 2012 demo, offering major improvements to the game’s lighting and depth of field effects.
The modder says that they’ve been able to “integrate and enable many effects” allegedly hidden deep in the game’s files, including “E3 2012 bloom” and bokeh DOF. It also enables shadows from vehicle headlights, illuminates rain drops and introduces changes to reflections.
The mod is even said to offer “performance improvements”, despite introducing a significant visual boost.
Further upgrades could be on the way, too. In an update posted today, the modder states that they were able to find “many [more] e3 files” hidden in the game, including the “E3 2012 gas station explosion”.

If the modder’s claims are true, questions will need to be asked of why Ubisoft failed to enable the effects in the initial release.
