Relic Entertainment’s Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition is almost upon us, bringing back the classic 2004 RTS to modern gamers with new visuals, improved path finding and more.

While the underlying gameplay may be massively improved, the upcoming remaster saw a hefty dose of fan backlash for one major change: the removal of the iconic, guttural Space Marine scream. However, Relic has quickly fixed its mistake just in time for launch.

Relic restores Dawn of War opening cutscene

More than a week after fans expressed their disappointment at the Enhanced Edition re-release’s opening cutscene, Relic Entertainment has shared a new version of the unforgettable intro on YouTube

The new version of the opening movie boasts restored “original audio”. Watching through the video, everything sounds just as it should albeit with higher resolution visuals, and that iconic Space Marine roar has been slotted in like the final piece in a beautiful puzzle.

“We heard you,” Relic Entertainment told fans. “We’ve re-released the Enhanced Trailer with the original audio. The iconic roar is back to celebrate launch week! Are you ready to serve… again?”

It’s so beautiful, I could cry.

Long-time fans of the epic RTS game have responded immensely to the return of the iconic Warhammer 40K Space Marine scream that echoed throughout many early 2000s memes and was commonplace on free soundboard apps on the early Google Play Store.

“It’s not just the scream that’s back,” one fan said. “The Dreadnought appearing from the dust with loud, metallic footsteps, turning towards the hill and just blasting was my favourite part in the original trailer. The venerable brother did not need to say a word to have a presence on the battlefield.”

“The original audio is just so good,” another fan responded. “The random quotes interspersed throughout the previous one didn’t really work. Thanks a lot for listening to us on this, [it] means a lot and is a good sign.”

The former version of the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition cinematic wasn’t really bad, but it felt like an unnatural change. For many of us, the original Dawn of War was our intro to the wider Warhammer universe, one that has fuelled our love of the tabletop game and kept us playing new games like Space Marine 2. And sometimes, the low-quality, tinny sound effects of decades past are worth keeping, especially when they mean this much to fans.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War – Enhanced Edition releases on PC on August 14, 2025. There is a discount available for fans who already own the older Complete Edition of the game.
