It seems a week can’t pass without Sony releasing a new firmware update for the PSP. The newest update brings your PSP up to version 2.50 and includes with it a few new features. While nothing extraordinary, you’re now able play copyright protected media from a Memory Stick and wirelessly stream video to the PSP using Sony’s LocationFree technology.
Other small fixes have also been made, as well as the ability to set the PSP’s clock directly from the internet. Only a few days ago Sony released a version 2.01 firmware designed to counter the ability to downgrade version 2.0 PSPs to version 1.5, but this provided nothing to entice PSP owners to perform the upgrade. Version 2.50 will likely prove harder to resist, especially for those wanting to playback DRM protected media files.
The update is currently available for US and Japanese PSPs with the European update expected shortly.
