Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was nearly cancelled entirely, reveals publisher

Fredrik Wester—CEO of Paradox Interactive—has revealed troubled RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was almost cancelled entirely earlier this year.

Wester was speaking in an interview with Swedish outlet Nyhetsbyrån Direkt via Avanza and translated by Video Games Chronicle. He spoke on Paradox taking the game away from Hardsuit Labs back in February of this year. “When we lifted the game from the original developer, we had a long review in case we should end the game or run it further. Then we were actually prepared to close the production completely.”

However, it seems the game got a reprieve in the midnight hour.  “But we got a ‘pitch’ that we thought was convincing enough to run,” he revealed. “And we have very good hopes that it will be a good game that meets the players’ expectations.”

Paradox hasn’t specified which studio is now working on the game. However, Wester has apparently claimed the new ward to be a “very reputable and talented developer”. Paradox confirmed the game would miss 2021 as part of the announcement, and there’s no word on a new date.

Following Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2’s removal from original developer Hardsuit Labs, the studio was sadly forced to let several members of staff go. However, it does appear the team got a new logo just last week and are actively hiring, so hopefully there’s brighter days ahead.

As for the game, it looks like fans will be holding their breath a little while longer yet.
