Vampire Survivors, poncle’s addictive roguelike creation, is starting to spread its undead influence as an animated TV adaptation based on the game has now been announced. Based on an early preview of the plot, its story will apparently take place in rural Italy and will revolve around the Belpaese Family as they take on the evil Bisconte Draculó.
The series will reportedly be produced by Story Kitchen, a media group that’s simultaneously creating a live-action adaptation of another beloved video game in Sifu. However, the Vampire Survivors TV show is still searching for a writer so it may not be end up airing any time soon.
For those unfamiliar, Vampire Survivors’ core premise is simple – pick a character and keep moving your feet to avoid the continuous waves of enemies that threaten to erase your very existence. While you move around the large map, your avatar will automatically fire off a constant stream of their own unique weapon that you can use to fight off enemies. What makes the game perpetually interesting, though, is the wide array of weapons and characters that you can unlock, making each run completely different from the other.
It’s mainly because of this addictive gameplay loop that it recently won a BAFTA for Best Game. According to Deadline, Story Kitchen co-founder Dmitri M. Johnson even said that they “were prepared to dismiss it as just another vampire game.” “Hundreds of hours played later, we were all hooked, and we just could not get enough!! Needless to say, we’re truly honored to partner with this incredible team and to continue the Vampire Survivors story,” he continued.
Now that Vampire Survivors is getting its own TV adaptation, the cult classic should become even more of a mainstream hit once the show starts airing. Though production for it seemingly hasn’t started yet, it may just end up being another runaway hit after it eventually releases.
