Popular free-to-play PC shooter Valorant is coming to mobile, with a beta possibly on the way very soon.
Developer Riot Games announced that the shooter would be heading to iOS and Android devices last summer. As part of the game’s first year celebrations, Riot spoke with Polygon to confirm the news with executive producer, Anna Donlan. At the time, she said “For us, whatever you get out of playing on PC, you should get out of playing Valorant on mobile. But we have to recognize that the mobile player need is different.”
There’s not been an awful amount on the mobile version since that announcement one year ago. However, there’s been reportedly been a few closed tests with players in “selected countries” including China since April 2022. A few screenshots have been shared by prominent mobile game social media accounts, including DannyINTEL on Twitter back in June. Fellow leaker Shaun Weber claimed on Twitter that a formal closed beta would kick off in July with more details over the coming days. However, as of August 2 there’s been no further word so far.
At the time of writing, there’s no final release date for Valorant Mobile just yet. Back during that 2021 reveal, however, Donlan said the game should be ready for Android and iOS devices in the second half of 2022 or 2023. According to Donlan, Riot has no plans for Valorant to support cross play between the mobile and PC versions.
Hopefully, we don’t have much longer to wait to hear more on the game from Riot. We’ll keep you up to date should we hear more about Valorant Mobile. A console version is also being “explored” by the studio, but that’s apparently taking a backseat to the mobile version.
