SEGA today announced that Valkyria Chronicles II, the follow-up to the acclaimed PS3 tactical RPG, will be released exclusively for PSP in summer 2010.

The story of Valkyria Chronicles II takes place two years after the conclusion of the original game. A group of young Gallian Military Academy cadets find themselves plunged into a bitter civil war when the newly formed Gallian Revolutionary Army stages a coup.

“Valkyria Chronicles received widespread critical acclaim when it launched on PS3 last year,” said Gary Knight, European marketing director, SEGA Europe. “It has quickly become one of our most respected franchises, so we’re delighted to be able to continue the saga on the PSP. We hope that fans of the series will enjoy the freedom of experiencing Valkyria wherever they are and that a new audience will be able to discover the universe on their PSPs.”

The CANVAS engine, originally developed internally by SEGA Game Studios Japan for Valkyria Chronicles on PS3, is being fully redesigned for the graphical capabilities of the PSP. Additionally, Valkyria Chronicles’ BLiTZ battle system has also been re-designed to offer players the freedom to strategically move around the environment and attack enemies using real-time controls.

Valkyria Chronicles II will be available in summer 2010.
