The Xbox 360 sold 483,989 units in the US during September 2010, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has announced.

With no published figures from the NPD Group, it was down to the platform holders to release figures and Microsoft was keen to share the good news.

Year-on-year Xbox 360 sales are up 37 per cent, while sales for rivals Wii and PS3 declined.

“As the Xbox 360 business heads into the homestretch of its biggest year ever, there are strong signs of continued growth and momentum,” read a statement from Microsoft.

“Pre-orders of Kinect for Xbox 360 are selling out at retailers nationwide – a sign of strong consumer demand before launch on November 4th [in the US].”

As the number one selling console for the fourth month in the row, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 clearly has the momentum as we enter the frenzied holiday shopping months. Its new slim form factor and low price point, coupled with a huge marketing push for Kinect and the impending launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops should ensure sales continue to climb in October and November.
