Low and behold, a truly outstanding game has made it to the top of the UK videogame chart. After a long time coming, Shadow of the Colossus was finally released in the UK and fears that it would be ignored by the UK video game buying public have been washed away, with Sony’s epic masterpiece entering the chart at No.1. Shadow of the Colossus managed to outsell Star Wars: Empire at War (No.2), LucasArts’ much anticipated Star Wars RTS.
This week’s only other new title to make the top twenty is Atari’s ‘Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure’, which having received some mixed reviews has only managed to sneak in at No.19. Sony’s budget reissue of ICO doesn’t’ show up in the full price chart, but did manage No.23 in the all prices chart.
Places three to six are comprised of EA titles, with last week’s front runner Need for Speed: Most Wanted having dropped two places to No.3. Rugby 06 climbs to fourth, with The Sims 2 and FIFA 06 taking positions five and six respectively. With the Olympics now in full swing Torino 2006 makes a move into the top ten, rising from No.11 to No.7. This week’s biggest climber is Buena Vista Games’ Chicken Little, making a massive leap from No.23 to No.9.
Next week expect to see the massively hyped Black take to the No.1 position, with Codemasters’ TOCA Race Driver 3 also offering up a strong debut. Also with a chance of making the grade are the PC titles, RF Online, Tycoon City: New York, and Crashday.
