After knocking Need for Speed: Most Wanted from its perch, Shadow of the Colossus has been toppled after only a week at the top, falling to the fourth spot. Black was pretty much as close to a dead cert for the number one position as you’re likely to see, even with strong competition from TOCA Race Driver 3, which arrived on PS2, Xbox and PC this week. According to Chart Track, Black is EA’s first all formats chart number one from a new IP since Dungeon Keeper, way back in 1997.

Codemasters’ MMO RF Online had a strong showing in its debut week, managing to reach No.16 in the all formats chart and No.2 in the PC only chart, only beaten by LucasArts’ Star Wars: Empire at War. Call of Duty 2 continues to do well showing a nice rise from No.17 to No.12, with Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure from Atari also climbing up the chart to No.13.

This week sees the release of EA’s FIFA Street 2, The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth II and The Sims 2: Open for Business expansion. With three massive titles hitting the stores, Black may well be in for some stiff competition from its EA stable mates.
