Chart Track reports that PES 2009 has entered the All Formats All Prices video game chart at No.1, but was unable to match launch week sales of FIFA 09. 58 per cent of sales were on PS3, 40 per cent on Xbox 360 and only 2 per cent on PC.
This year FIFA 09’s Xbox 360 launch sales were 2.66 times that of PES 2009 on the same platform. PES 2009 launch week sales are lower on Xbox 360 this year than PES 2008 last year, while the game’s sales on PS3 are up 39 per cent over last year.
Elsewhere THQ has the successful launch of Saints Row 2 to celebrate, debuting at No.3 behind PES and FIFA. The game saw 73 per cent of its sales on Xbox 360 and 27 per cent on PS3. The Xbox 360 version of the game charted at No.2 in the Xbox 360 chart, only 5,000 units behind PES 2009 at No.1.
Despite considerable hype the newly released PS3 version of 2K’s BioShock was only able to make a re-entry at No.14 in the All Formats All Prices chart – No.4 in the PS3 chart behind PES, FIFA and Saints Row 2.
PES 2009 will have a hard time holding on to the top spot next week, with a series of high profile releases set to hit stores on October 24. Look out for new entries from Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Midnight Club LA, Spider-man Web of Shadows and Fable 2.
